SHORT COURSE - MUHIMBILI.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY COURSE FOR EDUCATIONAL AND HEALH CARE PROFESSIONALS
INTRODUCTION
The school of Nurse Teachers in collaboration with School of Nursing all operating under MUHAS are conducting a course on Teaching Methodology Course for Educational and Health Care Professionals from 5th August to 13th September, 2013. Participants are encouraged to take the course in its totality. However, participants interested in one or two modules may do so by communicating with organizers through the given address below.

The training will be conducted in two separate classes, morning and evening classes of 6 weeks (272 hours) duration each.

Aim
The aim of the course is to prepare health personnel to become providers of quality health care and education services at any health care and educational institution in the country.


Course Objectives
By the end of the training the participants should be able to:
1. Apply concepts and principles of curriculum development and planning in critiquing, developing and planning a given curriculum
2. Develop effective teaching concepts, principles skills for conducting a teaching and learning session at any setting
3. Appraise the principles and practices of measurements and evaluation in teaching and learning situation

Expected Competencies
1. Demonstrate ability in critiquing, developing and planning a given curriculum
2. Conducting teaching and learning session particularly related to health care and educational topics
3. Facilitate effectively assessment of student/health care provider performance in health care and education

Structure of the training
Module Number 1: Introduction to Curriculum Development
 Concepts of curriculum development and its determinants
 Curriculum influences and sources
 Curriculum development process and its elements
 Curriculum designs
 Curriculum implementation change and innovations

Module Number 2: Effective Teaching Methods
 Principles of effective teaching
 Facilitation skills
 Steps in conducting a teaching session
 Teaching methods
 Guide for microteaching sessions
 Microteaching practice

Module Number 3: Measurement and Evaluation in Education and Health Care Setting
 Preparation of test items
 Assessing knowledge
 Assessing skills
 Assessing attitudes
 Constructing objective and subjective types items
 Marking tests and examination questions
 Conducting clinical performance examination
 Grading the performance
 Communicating tests and examination results

Target groups
The course attracts participants from both public and private health care personnel (Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacists, Laboratory Technicians, Clinical Officers, Clinical Assistants, Health Officers ect) working with healthcare facilities and training institutions in Tanzania and other countries. The course is also open to other professionals dealing with training/education.

Course Fees
For registration each local participant will be required pay Tsh. 40,000/= part or total course each foreign participant will be required pay USD 27 part or total course. For the morning classes participants will be required pay;
 Local Tsh. 225,000/= per module. or Tsh.675,000/= for all modules
 Foreigner USD 220 per module or USD 660 for all modules
For the evening classes participants will be required pay;
 Local Tsh. 130,000/= per module Tsh. 390,000/= or for all modules
 Foreigner USD 155 per module or USD 465 for all modules
The fee can be deposited at NMB Muhimbili Branch, Account Number 2091100002 for local currency. Foreign currency can be deposited at same branch using Swift Code system
The applicant should pay tuition fee in advance and submit pay in slips at least 2 weeks before starting of the course.

Travelling Costs
Travelling costs and accommodation is not part of the course fees. Applicants will have to arrange the said services. However, the school will arrange accommodation and evening meals for foreign participants and will cost per participant

Application letter of intention should be sent to the address below. The letter should indicate type of sessions selected (either morning classes or evening classes), copies of CV and diploma or and degree certificates. You can E-mail them. The letter should indicate your qualifications, current position and how this course will facilitate your work. The closing date for applications will be 28th June, 2013. Applications received after that date will be entertained in the next group
